Coffee for a Cause
We are fortunate to live in such a supportive community. Many local businesses have joined the fundraising effort since we established the Harlie Russell Foundation and we could not have achieved our goal without their support.
One such business was our local coffee shop. Each morning I would stop in to order a plain old regular flat white (I lead an exciting life) and the girls would often ask how Harlie was. When I told them about our dream to get Harlie to America for surgery, they jumped on board without hesitation. A donation tin sat proudly on the front counter and talk began of a fundraising day for Harlie.
On August 5th, only 10 days before Harlie underwent SDR surgery, Coffee on the Way at Ferny Way held a "Pink Day for Harlie" to raise funds for her surgery. The shop was decorated in Harlie's favourite colour as were the baristas and pink treats were available to enjoy with their amazing coffees.
Harlie enjoyed the celebrations with her best friend, Lilly, as it was to be the last time they were together before the big trip. Needless to say it was the most emotional morning tea I have ever been to. Many of Harlie's supporters attended on the day to offer kind words and plenty of hugs.
Coffee on the Way raised an incredible $750 for Harlie. That's a lot of coffee! We love our local support...and our coffee....so if you're ever in need of a pick-me-up in Ferny Hills, pop in and say hi to the team at Coffee on the Way, 120 Ferny Way, Ferny Hills. Tell them Harlie sent you!
